image (1)ALBERTHA VIOLA MORRIS, affectionately known as “Mrs. Morris, Bertha, Grandma, and Big Grandma,” was born to the union of Jamaican parents; the late Alexander Peart and Bethilda Williams on June 8, 1922 in Guabito, Bocas Del Toro, Panama. Mrs. Morris had four siblings: Florence Campbell, Vivian Romero, Leonard Campbell, Lucious Robinson, and step brother Victor Robinson who all preceded her in passing. As a young woman, Mrs. Morris moved to the Province of Colon in Panama. She married Victor Morris in 1947.  Mrs. Morris had twelve children: Miriam Johnson, Viven Miller, Sylvia Holder, Alfonso Morris, Alexander Morris, Joan Randle, Eustace Morris, Horacio Morris, Sheila Solomon, Winston Morris, Dahlia Taylor and Delia Morris. Mrs. Morris was a wise, smart, and witty woman who dedicated her life to loving, caring and encouraging her children to always, “Trust in the Lord.”  During her lifetime, she worked as a clerk at the local club house, in domestic occupations, and was a trained cake decorator and seamstress. She loved working on crafts, she loved to bake, and she taught her children and many of the neighborhood girls to crochet. Mrs. Morris was a natural teacher and was well respected and adored by her family and friends.  She was kind and generous…watchful and prayerful.  Mrs. Morris possessed a loving and caring spirit, and she loved The Lord.  She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Rainbow City, Colon and upon relocation to San Diego, California she became a member of Encanto Southern Baptist Church where she served in the Missions ministry and several other ministries under the ministerial leadership of the late Deacon and Sister Freddie Williams, and Sister Pearly Mitchell. She loved and appreciated Encanto Southern Baptist for their biblical teachings.  Those left to cherish her memory are her 12 children, 27 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grand, daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, 2 nieces and their children, 1 nephew and his children, a host of cousins, and numerous other relatives and friends. Services were held Thursday, August 11, 2016 at Encanto Southern Baptist Church; interment at Green Memorial Park. Final arrangements were entrusted to Anderson-Ragsdale Mortuary.
