Since its launch, the Affordable Care Act has left many Americans with a myriad of emotions, from dazed and confused to anxious and helpless. While locally, quite a few have mastered maneuvering through the Covered California website, Supervisor Greg Cox in conjunction with Councilwomen Myrtle Cole, Marti Emerald and San Ysidro Health Center, have taken the initiative to ensure that locals are well informed on how to maintain, and or secure health coverage.  On Saturday, December 14th, the four will be hosting an Affordable Care Act Town Hall and Resource Fair at the Joe and Vi Jacobs Center from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  “Regardless of the politics behind the Affordable Care Act, it is the law of the land, and we need to ensure that residents get the right information and know what is available to them,” shared Luis Monteagudo, director of  Communications for Supervisor Cox’s office.  Monteagudo shared that they hope to educate and enroll as many individuals as possible into programs that they may be eligible for.  Other event outreach and resource partners include The San Diego Urban League, the Chula Vista Community Collaborative, Neighborhood House Association, Jacobs Center for Neighborhood Innovation, the YMCA, and Live Well San Diego.  While the town hall is taking place, attendees will have an opportunity to visit the resource tables set up on site. “Information will be provided from our community partners who helped us get the word out on the ACA Town Hall.  More important is the Enrollment Fair that will take place after the presentations, which will occur from 11:30 to 1:00 p.m.,” shared Monteagudo.  County HHSA eligibility workers will be on hand to screen and enroll for CalFresh (food stamps) and Medi-Cal.  In addition, San Ysidro Health Center staff will be on hand to enroll individuals into Covered California.
