donaldDONALD EDWARD CHAMBERS was born on November 5, 1940 in Birmingham, Alabama to James Edward Chambers and Rosie Barnes Chambers. He was raised in Birmingham and later moved to San Diego, California during the late 50’s. Donald had several jobs throughout his life, including a shuttle driver for the San Diego Airport and as well as working in a janitorial position at Imperial Market. He also sang with a number of groups and traveled the country as a performer. Donald had a love for music especially, Gospel music. His favorite group to listen to was “The Might Clouds of Joy”. He loved to reminisce about his time as a singer and would often regale his family with tales from his time on the road. Donald became ill in later years. He lost his sight and endured dementia. Through it all, he still kept his faith. He would listen to gospel music with a smile on his face. He was a loving man who always had kind words for everyone he encountered. He was preceded in death by his father, James Edward Chambers; his mother, Irma Rosie Barnes; sister, Nitra Cockrell and brother, Bobby Coleman. Donald Edward Chambers was called home to eternal rest on Saturday, September 3, 2016.  He is survived by his children: Guy Edward, Chambers, Ricky Bernard Chambers, Donald Edward Chambers, Jr., Robin Yvette Chambers, Parrish Juan Chambers, Juanita Norvette Chambers and Devlin Richard Chambers; siblings, Wayne Cockrell, Leland Coleman and Twanda Cockrell; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Services were held Tuesday, September 20, 2016, at Anderson-Ragsdale Mortuary.
