In keeping with his campaign promises to be more accessible to the community, Mayor Kevin Faulconer on April 8th met with a group of about 20 African American clergy. The hour long meeting covered a number of issues, some of which were discussed during his Mayoral candidacy. To facilitate the meeting, the ministers, who meet on a regular basis, prepared an agenda in advance of the meeting which was forwarded to the Mayor. The discussions included Boards and Commission’s vacancies, the need for more African Americans in the San Diego Police Department, recognition of some outstanding City employees and the Mayor’s desire to get things done as he enters his second 30 days in office. There was also a group appreciation expressed for his presence and participation in the homegoing services of the late Dr. Timothy Winters of Bayview Baptist Church, where the Mayor not only gave stirring remarks, but remained for as much of the service as possible.

Both the pastors and the Mayor seemed pleased with the meeting, as follow ups promised on a number of issues and the the session ended with a pleasant group photo.
