San Diego, CA: A special presentation was offered by collaborators in the Urban League of San Diego County’s Project Ready initiative at the recent San Diego Unified School District E Trustee Cabinet meeting at Gompers Prep Academy located at 1005 47th Street, San Diego, 92102.

Project Ready is a program that prepares youth for successful lives after high school by providing enhanced academic support to students, in preparation for post-secondary success. The program provides academic support, ACT & SAT test preparation, cultural enrichment and leadership development and encourages parent and community involvement. The goals of the program promote school retention, academic accomplishment, college preparation, social development and cultural awareness.

Added to the curriculum are special workshops, field trips, and college tours, opportunities for participants at local university sites to interact with one another. After several weeks of work with the curriculum and participating in workshops, students participate in a community service project that impacts their community around social change using a consensus organizing model.

Project Ready has launched at Lincoln High School in Southeastern San Diego and is free for Lincoln High School students to participate in. Students, parents and community members are invited to become involved. “The collaborative is important because it creates interventions, support and access to regarding academics, character development, SAT preparation, merit based scholarships and parent engagement strategies. – all ingredients for student success,” stated Marne Foster, Vice-President, Board Trustee, San Diego Unified School District.”

Project Ready is supported by a grant from San Diego Gas & Electric, National Urban League, WalMart, and Wells Fargo Bank.
