Rochon Ladell Jackson

obits-11-240002Rochon Ladell Jackson, affectionately known as “Cali” by his friends, was born on December 11, 1994 to Chekesha Williams and Rodney Jackson in San Diego, CA. Growing up, Rochon was a very loving and happy child, never willing to go unnoticed in a room. He accepted Christ at the age of seven at the Bayview Baptist Church under the pastorship of the late Dr. Timothy Winters, where he was an avid participant in the Expressions of Joy children’s choir and later, Youth Fellowship. Rochon attended Nubia Leadership Academy, Bell Middle School and Lincoln High School of San Diego, CA before relocating to Brandon, MS in September 2010. There, Rochon graduated from Brandon High School with a 3.0 G.P.A. At the completion of high school, he attended Jackson State University to continue his education, majoring in Kinesiology. He was set to graduate Spring 2017, which was the greatest achievement of his young life. Rochon was an avid lover of sports. During his life he played baseball, Valencia Park pop warner football, and his true love, basketball. He idolized Kobe Bryant and at times, championed himself as “the little Kobe Bryant.” Rochon had a larger than life personality. His high-pitched laugh and mile-wide smile would lift the gloom from anyone’s day. If you truly knew him, you knew his love for style, jokes and the ladies. It was not uncommon to catch Rochon looking into a mirror or a camera, lovingly telling his aunt and others, “they want me”, referring to his “ladies man” persona. His comedic personality was typically an unconscious attempt to laugh with family and friends. No matter where he was or who he was with, he entertained. Once one got to know him, they couldn’t help but to love him. He was his mother’s spoiled brat, his sisters’/cousins’ headache, brothers’ idol, aunts’ favorite and grandmothers’ apple of her eye, pain in her knee and ache in her back, but he was her sunshine. We will always remember his infectious smile and his loving and caring personality, never willing to see someone in need struggle. On Friday November 4, 2016 Rochon gained his wings and went on to be with the Lord. To cherish his memory, Rochon is survived by his mother, Chekesha Williams of San Diego, CA; stepfather, Akida Lucas of Las Cruces, NM; sisters Keijahnae Bradford and Shakura Lucas of San Diego, CA; brother, Kailan Lucas of San Diego, CA, grandmother, Minnie Williams of San Diego, CA; great aunt, Shirley Spann of Brandon, MS; aunt, Letitia Lowery of San Diego, CA; great uncle, John Wayne (Dorothy) Dawson of Jackson, MS, uncles, Allen Lowery of Ridgeland, MS and Douglas Lowery of Jackson, MS, Mark Anderson of Brandon, MS and a host of cousins, family, and friends. Rochon is preceded in death by his grandfather, Robert “Flap” Williams of Chattanooga, TN; great grandparents, A.G. and Marie Dawson and Jesse and Mary Williams.
