Voice and Viewpoint Athletes of the Week

The Male standout athlete of the week goes to Richard Polanco. Polanco is a 6”8 Senior out of Army-Navy High School in Carlsbad. Currently, Polanco is 2nd in scoring in San Diego, averaging 26.6 points per game, and he leads San Diego in rebounding at 16.6 per game. He ended the year with a monster game against Spanish Springs in which he posted 31 points and 24 rebounds. According to ESPN100, Polanco is currently the 17th ranked player in California. He has yet to make his decision on what college he will be attending in the fall.

The female standout athlete of the week is Scripps Ranch High School senior, Totyana Simien. Simien is averaging 18.1 points per game, 11.3 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks. She leads her team in all three statistical categories, as well as being a team captain. The 6”2 senior has also helped her team to a 10-3 start to the season. Simien is one of only 2 players in San Diego that ranks in the top 10 in scoring and rebounding, she is also one of the top shot blockers in the city as well.
