Charlie Wilson December 28, 1935-September 23, 2017

CHARLIE JUNIOR WILSON, affectionately known as “Uncle Charlie”, was born December 28, 1935 in Fordyce, AR. He was the youngest of four children born to a very loving and devoted mother, Gracie Huggins. Charlie was a true “Mama’s Boy” who loved his mother dearly.  He was a typical young boy who often enjoyed playing with his toy “Roy Rogers” hand pistol. He attended school in Dallas County, AR. Charlie eventually dropped out of school to help out his mother.

Although Charlie never furthered his education, he graduated from the school of “Hard Knocks” and was able to navigate through life with the good sense that God gave him. In

the early 1960’s, due to bigotry and segregation in the South, the family picked up and moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico. There, he worked odd jobs side-by-side with his favorite girl; his mother, Gracie over a ten year span at the State Fair.  He later began employment with the Coca Cola Company and retired after twenty plus years of exemplary service.

It was during the 1980’s, when his mother’s health began to deteriorate.  With the help of his eldest sister, Thunie May and his niece, Beverly, Charlie and his mother relocated to San Diego, CA to be closer to his eldest sister, and his baby sister, Dorothy.

Sometime after his arrival to San Diego, Charlie united with the Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor John Simmons.  It was at Mt. Tabor where he gave his life to God with dedication to Christ. Charlie lived an on-and-off-again relationship with God; but he never forgot God and he somehow knew the Lord God never forgot him. Charlie was not a man of many words, but he sure was a praying man. In his later days, Charlie united with Good News Baptist Church, under the leadership of Reverend Floyd Brown Jr, and later became a deacon.

Charlie loved fishing and taking long walks, as well as relaxing in a chair with a cold beer in front of a shade tree. He also enjoyed being the life of the party, surrounded by lots of loving friends and family and talking loud at fun-filled family get-togethers.

Through the years, Charlie, who had a huge loving and caring heart, took care of a lot of people; often opening his doors to many who did not have a place to stay. He lived his life to the fullest until the Lord called him home to Glory.

On Saturday, September 23, 2017, Charlie Junior Wilson was called home to Glory to be with the Lord. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Gracie Huggins; his youngest sister, Dorothy Allen and his eldest brother, John “Uncle Duney” Smith. He leaves to cherish his memory: his last remaining sibling, his eldest sister, Thunie May Gibson; nieces; Beverly Ann Gibson, Roy Jean Mason, Helen Jean Gibson, Leola Allen, Barbara Allen, Shirley Allen and Suzan Allen all of San Diego; nephews, Terry Allen of San Diego, Printis Charles Smith of Arkansas, Frankie Ray Gibson and John Henry Gibson of New Mexico and a host of great-nieces and nephews. Uncle Charlie. You will forever be in our hearts.

Services were held Thursday, September 28, 2017 at Anderson-Ragsdale Mortuary; interment at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
