This past Saturday, March 7, Southeast San Diego came together to celebrate the start of the 2026 baseball season at Encanto Little League and Skyline Hills Little League Opening Day ceremonies. Families, local officials and educators showed up to show their support, marking an exciting beginning for young athletes and the communities that make their efforts possible. 

At Skyline Hills, the big day featured speeches of encouragement and support from league president Tommy Killingsworth and local dignitaries such as community activists Queen Mother Kathleen Harmon, Professor Dwayne Hill, and San Diego State University vice president Ed Hodges.The ceremonial first pitch was thrown by president of San Diego Continuing Education and legendary flame-thrower Dr.Tina M. King.

The Encanto festivities featured appearances by San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria, District 4 Councilmember Henry L. Foster III, San Diego County Fire Chief Robert Logan and special guest speaker Andre Petties-Wilson. 

Opening Day brought the community together to recognize the importance of youth sports, teamwork and sportsmanship.The gathering highlighted Encanto Little League and Skyline Hills Little League’s continued commitment to providing opportunities for young athletes and strengthening community ties in San Diego.
