I’m still basking in the warmth and joy of what truly was an extraordinary day as we recently came together to honor my beloved father, Deacon George Gibson, on the momentous occasion of his 90th birthday! It wasn’t just a party; it was a vibrant tapestry woven with love, legacy, and pure celebration, held on February 18, 2026, at the wonderful Neighborhood House Association Senior Center here in San Diego, CA.
The afternoon commenced with an outpouring of affection, as I, his daughter, had the privilege of extending a heartfelt welcome to all our cherished guests. This was followed by a truly moving and powerful prayer delivered by Reverend R.C. Williams Jr., a man who has stood by my father as his dearest friend and confidant for countless years. The spiritual upliftment set a beautiful tone for the festivities.
The atmosphere was nothing short of electric! DJ John Phillips of Golden Voice Productions expertly curated a playlist of old-school classics that had everyone on their feet, dancing and reminiscing. Then, Timothy “Mr. Soul” Edwin graced us with his incredible vocal talents, delivering soulful renditions that resonated deeply, filling the room with warmth and nostalgia.
But the afternoon’s most unforgettable surprise came when Dad, completely unscripted and full of life, took center stage! With a twinkle in his eye and a spirit that belied his 90 years, he captivated us all by showcasing and effortlessly mesmerizing everyone with a harmonica performance that simply left us breathless, a powerful reminder of his multifaceted spirit and enduring zest for life. It was a moment that truly transcended the ordinary, etching itself into our memories.
The culmination of the celebration saw my father receiving the esteemed Highly Favored Award from Elderly Love of San Diego. To witness his profound emotion and gratitude as he accepted this recognition was incredibly touching, a testament to the impact he has had on so many lives.
My father’s 90 years are a living testament to an unwavering spirit of dedication, relentless perseverance, and an unshakeable faith that has guided his every step. His 41 years of unwavering service at Jack-in-the-Box are not just a number, but a shining example of his commitment to excellence in every endeavor. Beyond his professional life, his spiritual calling as a dedicated Deacon has spanned over five decades, during which he has guided, inspired, and served countless lives within our church community. And at the heart of it all has been his boundless love and devotion to his family, especially his beloved wife, my mother, who we know was surely smiling down from heaven, sharing in his joy. He has always shown us what it means to love deeply and care for others selflessly.
On behalf of our entire family, I extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who contributed to making this milestone birthday so incredibly special. A special thank you to Reverend R.C. Williams Jr. for his spiritual guidance, Cherryl Molina for her invaluable support, and the entire staff of the Neighborhood House Association Senior Center for their impeccable hospitality. And of course, a resounding shout-out to DJ John Phillips and Timothy “Mr. Soul” Edwin for providing truly unforgettable entertainment that kept our spirits high.
We are so incredibly grateful for the immense value you bring to our lives, Dad. Your example continues to be our guiding light.
