older couple celebrates anniversary

On the first Saturday of June, Willie Vann Davis & Pamela Diane Davis, with a host of family and close friends, celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary at their home in Skyline Hills. The all-day and night celebration was a friendly Hawaiian-themed party featuring a tasty Hawaiian cuisine, with the party-people decked out in traditional aloha-spirited attire.

Guest showed up to 69th Street from Arizona, Alabama, Las Vegas, Texas to honor and celebrate the happy couple on their very special 63rd wedding anniversary.

Willie Davis was born in Slick, Oklahoma, and Pamela Davis was born in Coffeyville, Kansas. The two California dreamers’ personal journeys ultimately led them to America’s finest City.

Tania Anders had this to say about her beloved parents: โ€œMy mom’s college friend Brenda introduced her to my Dad, who lived on the same street.โ€

All it took was that first introduction and they have been together ever since. They married on June 2nd, 1963, and through that union four children were born: Tania, Laronika, Shalon, and Willie Jr. They also raised their niece Zakisha, making them a family of seven. Together, the endearing couple have 11 grandkids, 22 great-grandkids, and one great-great.

They have also been pillars in the community and they are still affectionately called Grandma and Grandpa by many kids in the neighborhood. They were excellent mentors to a lot of them. Many of those kids, now adults, still go by the house and check on them, and some of them were present to share in today’s milestone celebration.

Mr. and Mrs. Davis love to sit on the porch in their rocking chairs and listen to some good old blues music, enjoy a cool drink and reminisce on all the wonderful memories they share. Mr. Davis is the entertainer of the family, and he is kind of laid-back. Mrs. Davis is more feisty than he is and that seems to make a great blended combination of the two.

They often give valued advice to married couples and those who want to be married. They must have the secret ingredients after sustaining a loving relationship for 63 years. โ€œWe congratulate them and truly love them,โ€ one family member said.

“I think this is a wonderful blessing, you can’t ask for too much more than this. Thank you to everyone that showed up to celebrate with me and my husband. Not too many people can say that theyโ€™ve been with the same person for 63 years,” Mrs. Pamela Davis shared.
