On the last Saturday of July, the Grandparents Connection and friends hosted their 23rd annual community picnic at Bay front park in Chula Vista.
The full day featured a cancer awareness walk and a variety of guest speakers eager to share their knowledge on various subjects. Attendees were encouraged to stay strong through hard times, put God first, and have a great time at the 23rd Annual GPC picnic.
The busy stage featured plenty of dancing and singing, including the Junkyard Dance Crew, saxophonist extraordinaire John Serrano, the best soul brother number-one James Brown imitator, and more.
”Our main lovely surprise of the day was jazz artist Mariea Antoniette; she was just fabulous,” GPC co-founder Shearl Lambert shared.
Line dancers were doing what they do best thanks to multi-talented Soundtechine Carton Jones who took care of the busy day’s DJ duties. There was also a big 78-foot obstacle jumper for kids to jump around and enjoy, along with other child-friendly activities.
There were 14 vendors from all over America’s Finest City surrounding the GPC’s designated picnic area. The special event was catered by Nelly’s Kitchen, and her capable staff helped to create a great food experience for the hungry GPC picnic celebrants.

“We appreciate all of them very much; they all know who they are,” said Shearl Lambert. “We have now supported 240 families; this program will continue to carry on.”
