On the first day of the new month, the community of Southeast San Diego and beyond were invited to hang out and have a good time with event creator Charolette Patton Logan and friends.
Willie Henderson Sports Complex on 45th Street is where the 2nd annual fun day under the sun took place. The event featured resource vendors, free food provided by the Harvey Foundation, free haircuts, a ferris wheel, and other rides for the kids to enjoy. The High Steppers Drill Team and other local talent took the stage to bust-a-move and showcase their skills.
The park was buzzing with activity, and local political representatives also took the stage to give out proclamation awards, keys to the city, and certificates of recognition to honorees for their exemplary work in the Southeast community. The honorees, including Dwayne Hill, Evette Brown, Salidin Martin, Earl Martin and Dr. Vangie, were some of this year’s recipients.
Supervisor Monica Montgomery Steppe was one of the dignitaries who stepped up to the microphone to express their appreciation for Charolette and her commitment to her community.
“I truly appreciate our community members for coming out and supporting us,” Charolette shared. “A special thanks to the Harvey Foundation; they are phenomenal.”
