Now that the elections are over at the National, State and Local levels and we have secured our goals of regaining control of the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate, the question is not only where do we go from here as a nation seeking to rebuild our democracy which was almost destroyed, but also what will we expect and demand of those we just put in power. We know we need an end to the illegal tariffs, the illegal war on Iran, restoration of healthcare cuts, reduction in gas prices, and the healing of
our relationship with our allies, along with being prepared to impeach and remove the President, if necessary.
We need to make sure that our congressionally elected Delegates understand that their large election margins did not represent a license to ignore our ethnic constituencies, so often overlooked as many of us were in this election, but rather our contribution to the numbers they needed to take back the House of Representatives and the Senate. Many of the people we voted for did not bother to even seek our votes because they felt sure they could ride their collective wave. Two years can roll by very quickly as we move toward the 2028 General election, which will once again place them before us for our votes.
Now is the time to see if we can retain control of the House and the Senate and if we make some changes in local officeholders. Here in San Diego, we are excited about the leadership changes on our City Councils and Board of Supervisors. But we must now decide what we expect of those we have put in office. The time for such decisions is now and not at the next election.
