There is an infinite supply of studies, opinion editorials, films, etc. that tell you the characteristics you should look for in a potentially “good” mate. According to studies published by psychologist Raymond Mar and professor of cognitive psychology Keith Oatley, people who read fiction are capable of the most empathy and “theory of mind,” i.e. the ability to hold opinions, beliefs, and interests apart from their own. In other words, they can entertain other ideas without rejecting their own beliefs and feelings about things.
