January 15, 2026, marks the 97th birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. While we celebrate his birthday, we also remember that he was assassinated 58 years ago this April.

Dr. John E. Warren, President of Warren Communications, Inc., is the Publisher of the San Diego Voice & Viewpoint Newspaper. Dr. Warren brings a rich background to journalism and the area of public policy. He spent over a decade on Capitol Hill working for three of our most famous African American members of Congress: The late Honorable Adam Clayton Powell of New York, the late Honorable Shirley Chisholm of New York, and the late Honorable Augustus F. Hawkins of California. Dr. Warren also served as a Legislative Assistant to the House Committee on Education and Labor in the U.S. Congress.
He is a past Vice President of the National Institute of Public Management, a past Director of the National School Boards Association and a former elected member of the Washington, D. C. Board of Education where he served for nine years. He served as a past Director of the National Newspaper Publishers Association and a past member of the National Bar Association and is a former Law Clerk to both the County of San Diego and the City of San Diego, CA. Warren is a Past Trustee and Adjunct Professor at National University.
He was an NPR/KPBS commentator for nearly a decade in San Diego, and holds two Associated Press Media Awards.
A graduate of the Howard University School of Law, He received a B.A. in Business and Government from Howard University. He did graduate-level studies as an honor student at the University of Southern California, emphasizing Public Policy and Public Administration. He is a graduate of the U.S. Army Officers Candidate School and holds a commission as an Officer in the U.S. Army Reserves. He is co-founder and Pastor of the Eagle’s Nest Christian Center in San Diego where he and his wife Dolores Van Rensalier-Warren reside.
