Darlene Wright, affectionately known as “Honey,” passed away on February 22, 2026. She was born on May 24, 1947, in Luling, Texas, to AM and Vero Randle. She grew up in a loving family alongside her siblings: her older sister Esther Moore, older brother Ellis (“Bubba”) Randle, and baby brother Willie Randle, who passed away in infancy. From an early age, Honey was known for her gentle spirit, compassion, and deep love for family.

Darlene met Curtis Wright during her school years at Rosenwald School in Luling, Texas. The two fell in love, married, and welcomed four children. Although they later divorced, Honey remained devoted to raising her family with love and guidance. In 1972, she moved her young family to San Diego, California, to be near her sister Esther Moore and brother-in-law Eugene Moore, beginning a new chapter with resilience and faith.

Guided by her desire to help others, Honey pursued nursing and began her career in Fort Worth, Texas, where her kindness and dedication touched many lives.

After settling in San Diego, Honey became a devoted member of Pilgrim Progressive Baptist Church under founding pastor Rev. Marvin C. Hines. Her church became a cornerstone of her life, where she worshiped faithfully and built lasting friendships.

Honey later worked for many years at General Dynamics and was admired for her strong work ethic and warm personality. She later returned to healthcare as an administrator with Kaiser Permanente, where she served until retirement.

Honey was also known for her wonderful cooking and baking. Her peach cobbler and banana pudding were family favorites, especially during holidays and gatherings that brought loved ones together.

In retirement, Honey enjoyed visiting local casinos, especially Barona, often saying she was heading to “The Ranch” or going “out the way.”

Honey was blessed with four children: Gary Wright, twin daughters Debra Wright and Donna Wright, and her youngest daughter Karen (“Niecy”) Wright, who preceded her in death. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, her special cousin Lillie Shepherd of Dallas, Texas, sister-in-law Melvia Randle of San Antonio, Texas, and a loving host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

She will be remembered for her gentle humor, nurturing heart, and steady presence. Her legacy of love, faith, family, and service will live on.

“Well done, good and faithful servant.” (Matthew 25:23)
