The air was filled with effervescent joy and heartfelt connection as Elderly Love, in powerful partnership with the Lincoln Hornets Alumni Association (LHAA), recently convened its eagerly anticipated 2nd Annual Spring Tea with Grammy & Me. This enchanting gathering served as a vibrant tribute to the irreplaceable role of grandmothers and a beautiful testament to the strength of intergenerational bonds. Guests, elegantly adorned in their most cheerful spring attire, transformed the venue into a blossoming garden of festive colors, setting the stage for an afternoon brimming with tradition, recognition, and affectionate interaction.
A pivotal and deeply moving moment of the event was the distinguished ‘Crown Me Queen’ ceremony. This segment glowed with appreciation as each deserving grandmother was celebrated for her wisdom, resilience, and unwavering love. Each honoree received a formal certificate of commendation from Council Member Henry Foster III, a sparkling tiara symbolizing their regal status within their families and community, and an exquisite crystal plaque. The esteemed grandmothers recognized for their profound impact were: C. Beatrice Bryant, Janice Carter, Denice Evans Carroll, Mary Duty, Cynthia Gilliam, Brenda Jones, Charlotte Patton, Christine Pea, and Marie Webster.

Beyond the accolades, the afternoon hummed with the delightful energy of young and old learning and creating together. Children, with unbridled enthusiasm, delved into crafting vibrant Mother’s Day potted plants under the patient guidance of Felicia Booker, their small hands carefully tending to new life. Nearby, Ms. Mary captivated young minds with a hands-on sewing demonstration, sparking curiosity and teaching traditional skills. Meanwhile, Maryanne Parker enlightened attendees on the refined nuances and rich history of the “Art of Afternoon Tea,” adding an elegant touch to the proceedings. The entire event commenced with a moment of serene reflection and blessing, beautifully ushered in by an opening prayer from Pastor Patty Allen, setting a reverent and appreciative tone.
The success of such a memorable occasion is a testament to dedicated teamwork and community spirit. The passionate Elderly Love team—Debra Portee, Erica Robinson, and Joyce McBryde—extended their profound gratitude to every individual and organization who contributed to the day’s magic. Special acknowledgement was given to Councilmember Henry Foster III for his support, and to Terrell Rackley for the carnations.
