The Eugene Bowman Economic Empowerment Center hosted its annual Joys of the Holidays Christmas Giveaway on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at the Malcolm X/Valencia Park Library, located at 5148 Market Street in San Diego’s 92114 community. Families gathered for a day centered on generosity, youth empowerment, and community connection.

During the event, the organization distributed Nike gym shoes, toys, books, and snacks to children and families in need. This marked the Center’s second consecutive year providing Nike gym shoes and its 10th year hosting the Joys of the Holidays Giveaway, a milestone reflecting a decade of sustained service and commitment to the community.

Founded in honor of Eugene Bowman, the organization continues his lifelong dedication to uplifting underserved families. Lorraine Bowman, President and Founder of The Eugene Bowman Economic Empowerment Center, emphasized that the nonprofit’s mission extends beyond seasonal giving. “We are a tax-exempt nonprofit organization named after my father for his lifelong commitment to helping those less fortunate,” Bowman said. “Our goal is to empower youth to make healthy life choices.”

Held at a trusted neighborhood hub, the Malcolm X/Valencia Park Library, the event underscored the importance of accessible community spaces in fostering support and opportunity. Through initiatives like the Joys of the Holidays Giveaway, the Eugene Bowman Economic Empowerment Center continues to provide tangible resources while reinforcing hope, dignity, and empowerment for San Diego families year-round.
