Message to the Black Man in Southeast: It’s Time we let the Dead Bury the Dead

Dear Editor:

I was recently thinking over the word ‘Negro’ and what this word has meant when used to describe us in America. We are told that the word Negro in Spanish refers to that which is black. Black beingsynonymous with that which is dark. What I want you to understand is that there is a little difference between the words Negro with a “G” and Necro with a “C”. Necro refers to something that is dead. And it should be clear that the term Negro when used to describe us over the years has referred, quite disrespectfully, to one who is dead. Someone who is blind, deaf, and dumb to the knowledge of what they are here to manifest upon the earth.

Now as I think over this, I can’t help but think about South East San Diego. And how South East has become a Necropolis, or an area wherein there is darkness and no light. An area wherein all things are dead. Let me take this to another level. On a street level I want you to consider the drugs of choice.

Traditionally the drug of choice has been “Water” or what is known as Sherm. Water is embalming fluid. It’s the fluid of the dead. These days there seems to be a preference for pills. In any event, in Ancient Kemit (Egypt) the chemistry of both water and pills was the business of Anubis- a god of the dead. Not only is he a God of the Dead but he is also the God of the crossroads, or what we call in Southeast “The 4 Corners of Death”. What I’m getting at is this; we participate day in and day out in rituals of the dead and don’t even realize it. We’ve been caught in a death cycle and we don’t even realize it. As a community, it should be obvious that we’re in a death cycle because not only do we tend to lack an understanding of the purpose of our existence within the community, but also instead of progressing our community we’re losing it. We’re dead.

With that said it’s important that we comprehend light. And in this sense I mean light that has the ability to dispel that darkness which clouds our thinking. Brothas you must remember that you were brought to this land a Ruler, a King, a Man, who has since been beat over the head and made to think of himself as a Negro, or Necro, or a thing that is dead. But that’s not who we really are. And just like it was a concept of self that destroyed us, it’s as simple as taking on a new concept of self to restore us. And that’s the light.
Let me put it to you like this. I want you to think about the sperm and the egg. And the sperm’s race to penetrate the egg. They say that there are over 5 million sperm involved in that race. And each one represents its own individual. My point is simply…You’re already a winner. Just think over that. You beat out 5 million other individuals ensuring that it was you who would manifest in this time and space. Think over that. This is what the pyramid symbolizes. That power that allows something to form out of nothing. Just think over that. After you hit your mark you then begin to form yourself and to develop yourself. And after a 9 month period you then forced your mother to push you forth from out of darkness and into light.

Now you tell me we aren’t raw? Explain to me why we should remain stagnant and stuck in conditions that crystalize us into a death state? Our very nature is to evolve. To rise from out of the Necropolis is our birth right. And with that said I’m going to be the one to tell you that you’re more than just a Blood, you’re more than just a Crip, and you’re more than any and everything they ever told you that you were. You’re more than that. Now whoever chooses to remain stuck in that, that’s their decision. But I’m here to tell you that you’re more than that. And that we are here for a reason. You’re the image and likeness of something so Supreme… but that’s another lesson.

Until then though lets be sure to get to the business of Self Reflection. Let’s get to the business of trying to understand what we are here to accomplish. Let’s get to the business of realizing the idea of progress in our community. This generation must get to the business of laying a foundation so that the next can stand on. And in the mean time we going to be sure to let the dead bury the dead.
