The Friends of Malcolm X Library hosted their 2025 Kwanzaa Celebration at the Malcolm X Library on Saturday, December 27. The afternoon celebration of day two of Kwanzaa, also known as Kujichagulia or “self-determination,” was filled with poetry, music, learning, crafts, and community. The day culminated in a lighting ceremony and the sharing of a meal.

“The idea is to not only give individuals an opportunity to experience a cultural event, highlighting Kwanzaa, Kujichagulia, but also to incorporate how the library can help our community actually live out that Kujichagulia, that self-determination,” said Jen Lothridge, Secretary of the Friends of Malcolm X Library.
