Sunday, April 5th, Women of Southeast collaborated with Dr. Mishi Booker, LCSW, EdDCP, a licensed therapist from the Bay Area, to host a restorative “Sunday Slow Down” sound bath experience centered on wellness and community healing.
The event created a safe space for women of color to pause, breathe, and reset their nervous systems. Through guided meditation and sound healing, attendees were able to release stress, reconnect with themselves, and experience a moment of stillness that is often missing from their daily lives.
One attendee, Stacy Ready, shared: “As a mother, daughter supporting my mother, career professional, and just helping others, it is really difficult for me to take the time to slow down and breathe. When I learned of the Sunday Slow Down event with the Women of Southeast San Diego, I jumped at the chance to purchase a ticket to experience a moment of serenity and peacefulness that I do not get to have often. I enjoyed every minute of the meditation and sound bath and I’m infatuated with my gifted pink and soft Women of Southeast San Diego blanket. Thank you WoSESD for allowing me to share a wonderful experience with other beautiful women in the community.”
Another attendee, Joyce McBride, reflected on the deeper emotional impact: “It was refreshing and emotional at the same time. My experience was a little deeper. I was able to connect with everyone in the room, but I also had a spiritual connection with myself. I released unknown tears. Then my body expressed you are not alone. When we came to a completion, my sisters were there to embrace me with hugs and encouragement. My tears of loneliness became tears of happiness and love.”
“I was so happy to see so many beautiful women in one space, taking the time to relax and just reset,” said Shatia R. Moore, President of Women of Southeast.
The Sunday Slow Down experience highlights the importance of intentional wellness spaces and the power of community-centered healing.
