San Diego, CA: On Tuesday, June 10, 2014 the Morse High School Varsity basketball team, parents and community supporters celebrated their CIF Eastern League championship with a ring ceremony and CIF banner presentation.
“All of the hard work, long hours, film sessions and road trips made it all worth it when you see the smiles on these kids faces right now. These guys have formed a blood brother bond, that can never be broken. Every time any of these young men watch a team win a championship, we will all be able to relate. Not only that, these guys will always know they created history. Two words: “ 12th Seed,” states Bob Sumler, Head Coach, Morse Varsity Boys Basketball Team.

“This was an exciting season as a team. We went through a lot of trials and tribulations that helped us grow closer together and become a FAMILY at the perfect time. Being the 12th seed, we were labeled as the underdogs and no one really believed in us. But we proved everyone wrong. I personally thank Shaun Manning and JoAnn Fields for all the support behind closed doors to be able to play and represent Morse. We had fun. We won. WE made history and took home the CIF banner!” shares Dante Foster, Jr., Guard, Morse Varsity Boys Basketball.

Brandon McCoy, Freshman, Center added,”It felt good to see everyone again to come celebrate our accomplishments. I am very proud of my teammates. We overcame a lot of adversity and a challenging schedule this season. Making the CIF Championship win so much more greater! I look forward to what is in store in the near future.”

Jah-mere Mitchell, Senior, Point Guard said, “With God nothing is impossible. Over the season we kept our faith and stuck together. We had a lot of ups and downs. However, in the end we pulled together and moved towards one goal to get the job done and win the CIF Championship. Special thanks to my mom and coach Bob for a great season.”
