SD County Board of Supervisors Votes to Add MENA Category

On Monday, Somali Family Service submitted a support letter to the San Diego County Board of Supervisors for Item #26: Adoption Of A New Population Category For San Diegans Of Middle Eastern And North African (MENA) Descent.

On Wednesday this week, the San Diego County Board of Supervisors, after hearing public comments from the Middle Eastern Community Center and directors of the Partnership for the Advancement of New Americans(PANA), voted unanimously, with all Supervisors present, in favor of adding the MENA category to all county documentation.

On Monday, Somali Family Service submitted a support letter to the San Diego County Board of Supervisors for Item #26: Adoption Of A New Population Category For San Diegans Of Middle Eastern And North African (MENA) Descent. Testimonial support from Joel Anderson, Supervisor of the Second District  and Monica Montgomery Steppe, Supervisor of the Fourth District, were also given in favor of the new addition, providing clarity on the need for accurate data collection as it is essential in getting critical resources to the community, particularly in the areas of hate crime, law enforcement, and health care.
