Daisie Mae Cowan

image (3)Daisie Mae Jones Cowan  was born August 5, 1941 in Wichita Falls, Texas to Thelma Murphy and Pink Jones. She was the eldest of her three siblings. Both of her parents and her sister, Mae Johnson preceded her in death. At an early age, Daisie accepted Christ at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. In 1959 Daisie graduated from Booker T. Washington High School located in Wichita Falls, Texas. She was on the Honor Roll, served on the yearbook staff, played the clarinet in the school band and was crowned Miss Washington. After high school, Daisie moved to San Diego, California and attended San Diego State University, where she studied Law. Soon after, she met and married the love of her life, Steve J. Cowan. To their union three sons were born: Steven, Eric and David. Daisie loved taking road trips with the family and enjoyed fishing, bowling, watching homemade family videos, writing, cooking, and much more. She was also the first female baseball manager for the Encanto Little League. Daisie was employed with the City of San Diego in the City Attorney’s office and various other departments. In November 1974, Daisie joined Bayview Baptist Church. As a devoted member, she was active with the church school, Junior Mission, Senior Mission, Sanctuary Choir, Scholarship Committee and Community Concerns Committee and also served as a Deacon’s wife and was also the co-editor of Bayview’s “Harvest Newsletter,” which was founded by the late Sis. H. Louise Phillips. Her great-granddaughter, Olivia Elizabeth Ann Fulcher preceded her in death. Early Monday morning on August 8, 2016, Daisie Mae Jones Cowan was called from earthly labor to eternal rest. She leaves to cherish in loving memory her husband of fifty-six years, Steve J. Cowan; three sons, Steven (Allison), Eric and David (Kimberly); two granddaughters, Tanisha (Ashton) and Quiana; one great-granddaughter, Abigail; her brother, Willie Jamison (Liza) of Texas; one sister, Alberta Ward of Texas; three sisters-in-law, Annie Porter, Bernice Steele and Eleanor White; one brother-in-law, Augusteen Cowan Sr. (Jennifer); cousins, Viola Fortune and Mary Lou Nesbitt of Arizona; and a host of other relatives and friends. Graveside service was held Monday, August 15, 2016 at Mt. Hope Cemetery;  Final arrangements were entrusted to Anderson-Ragsdale Mortuary.
