Open registration for the spring 2016 semester at the San Diego Community College District begins December 15. The 16-week semester starts January 25 and ends May 21.
Approximately 44,300 students are expected to enroll at City, Mesa, and Miramar colleges this spring – nearly 500 more than spring 2015.
“The San Diego Community College District is offering more classes in subjects that students need, opening new state-of-the-art facilities, and hiring excellent faculty,” said SDCCD Chancellor Constance M. Carroll. “City, Mesa, and Miramar colleges, and Continuing Education continue to grow in student enrollment because of the investment we are making in access and quality.”
In response to student demand, the district has added 175 class sections – a 3 percent increase from last spring. Emphasis has been placed on adding math and English classes, which are among those most in need. In addition, the number of online courses – which account for 1 in 10 class offerings – is up 5 percent. Students are encouraged to enroll early to get the classes they need at their preferred times.
Students will find many recently-opened facilities this spring, including a 49,000- square-foot addition to Miramar College’s Science Building and San Diego Continuing Education’s 68,000-square-foot César E. Chávez Campus in Barrio Logan.
Also new for the spring semester are 31 new full-time faculty members now employed across the district. Many of these faculty members bring years of experience teaching in the district as part-time professors.
To sign up for classes, prospective students must first submit a completed application via the Student Web Services link on the SDCCD website at www.sdccd.edu. Once an application has been submitted, students can then register for their classes online.
At $46 per unit, California community colleges offer an affordable way to secure a college degree. Financial aid and scholarships are available to qualified students.
In addition to the district’s for-credit colleges, San Diego Continuing Education offers a variety of noncredit courses at six campuses and several community locations. Continuing Education’s spring semester begins February 3, 2016.
