The Urban Youth Collaborative, Bayview Baptist Church, St. Stephens Church, Southeast Presbyterian, Croom’s Catering and Gridiron Ministries joined with others with financial support of Morse vs. Lincoln Unity Bowl Fellowship Dinner.
Both varsity teams got together at Bayview Baptist Church for fellowshipping, soul searching, inspirational speeches and an opportunity to laugh and learn before the big game. From the microphone Coach Dunn said “We play, stay and pray together.”
Morse High’s Shiloh Logan shared, “This was a good day. It was a way to get to know each other and fellowship together as a community with no animosity.” The speakers informed the room full of student athletes that their behavior would reflect the two schools moving forward Saturday and beyond. “It feels good to see everybody. A lot of us grew up together, we want to turn all negativity about us into positivity,” Jaylin Crowels said.
After a evening of fellowshipping, reflection and dining, the players and coaches joined hands in prayer and wished each other the best for Saturday. “Tonight proves that we can come together as Southeast schools and get along, regardless of the perception that some people have about our schools,” shared Morse Head Coach Tracy McNair. “You have people that still believe that you can only get a good education from schools north of the 8 and not south of the 8. That’s ridiculous. There’s nothing wrong with Morse or Lincoln. I graduated from Morse, my wife and Coach Dunn graduated from Morse. It’s very frustrating when our neighborhood kids continue to bus out thinking the grass is greener on the other side when its really not.”
Coaches McNair and Dunn will have the opportunity to help the future Unity Bowl games grow into something positive and big.
