San Diego Housing Federation welcomes California State Treasurer John Chiang and California State Assemblymember Shirley Weber
SAN DIEGO — Registration is now open for the must-attend affordable housing conference of the year in San Diego. San Diego Housing Federation is honored to have California State Treasurer John Chiang and California State Assemblymember Shirley Weber as the keynote speakers at this year’s annual conference.
The theme of the conference, “Housing Our Future”, focuses on exploring how a safe, decent, affordable home impacts children’s health, education & social development.
“We are pleased to have such accomplished speakers with ties to housing and budget and well as to our education and community health. They know that housing is a critical component of the state’s economic health and the well-being of our communities,” says Interim Executive Director Tom Scott. “We look forward to the dialog sparked by their presence and shared experiences.”
John Chiang believes that one of the greatest threats to our future prosperity is the inadequate supply of homes affordable to low- and moderate-income households. As State Treasurer, he oversees the allocation of low income housing tax credits and tax-exempt bonds, the two most significant sources of financing for development of new affordable homes.
Shirley Weber, known for her dynamic and energetic speaking style, is very involved in education and knows that housing leads to better health and education for our youth. Weber chairs the Assembly Committee on Budget, Assembly Select Committee on Higher Education in San Diego County and the Assembly Select Committee on Campus Climate. She also serves on the Assembly committees on Education, Higher Education and Appropriations.
The Housing Federation invites affordable housing proponents to join and learn more about these leaders’ visions of promoting affordable housing in San Diego and California. The annual conference offers engaging networking and training opportunities and will be held at the Hilton Bayfront Hotel and takes place on October 29 with pre-conference institutes on October 28.
