African-American Brothers Launch Free Mobile App That Teaches Cooking and Nutrition Through Comics and Animation

Nationwide — African-American brothers and entrepreneur team Justin and Terry L. Raimey have launched the Black Streak Kitchen mobile app. Through the app, the brothers publish recipe comic books, animated nutrition fact videos and kitchen safety music videos featuring their original characters that teach kids and families about cooking, nutrition, health and wellness.

“There is a need for this app in America, especially amongst African-Americans,” says Terry. “Parents are cooking less and feeding their families more fast food and takeout. This, of course, has led to rising rates of obesity, type-2 diabetes, hypertension in adults and even children. Black Streak Kitchen’s goal is to teach kids and families how to cook delicious meals, and inform them of the nutritional benefits of the ingredients within each recipe.”

Black Streak Kitchen accomplishes cooking and nutrition education through comics and animation.

“Using comics and animation to teach cooking makes the information fun and easy to remember,” says Justin. “I‘m the comics and animation artist, as well as the app designer, so it was important for me to make the artwork as fun and appealing as possible while keeping true to our message of culinary education, health and nutrition.”

Justin and Terry are using the Black Streak Kitchen app to promote their upcoming monthly comic publication “Black Streak Kitchen Comics”. Black Streak Kitchen will deliver recipes in the form of comic books digitally to their subscribers every month.
