When one completes this review of illnesses and health disparities among African Americans, it becomes clear that the battle must first start with each and every one of us being willing to make changes in both how we eat and how we live. We cannot allow the conditions of our environment or economics or the lack of public resources to become an excuse for not doing our part.

The concluding recommendations and identification of individuals and resources represent starting points of contact for information and assistance.
