0

Beginning at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, 16 September 2015, the San Diego Branch of the NAACP will lead a public march and rally for Equal Justice for All People.  Senator Marty Block, Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez, Councilpersons Todd Gloria, David Alvarez, Raquel Vasquez, and Trustees Marne Foster and Richard Barrera are a few of the elected officials who have committed to attend the event.

The San Diego Branch of the NAACP, along with other organizations and individuals concerned about equal rights, will be marching from San Diego City Hall (202 C Street) to the County Administration Building (1600 Pacific Highway).  This event is in solidarity with the final stop of America’s Journey for Justice.  America’s Journey for Justice, an 860 mile march through five states in the Eastern United States, which started on 1 August 2015 in Selma, Alabama and will conclude in Washington D.C. on 16 September 2015 (seehttp://www.naacp.org/ajfj).  America’s Journey for Justice, organized by theNAACP in conjunction with labor, civil rights, environmental justice, education, and faith-based communities, will be converging on Washington D. C. to demand the following:
•       National standards for use of force for all law enforcement agents, and passage of the End Racial Profiling Act
•       Federal action to ensure every student has access to safe, high quality education, regardless of location and household income
•       Federal prioritization of job creation and training, and passage of the Raise the Wage Act and the Paycheck Fairness Act
•       That Congress restore, strengthen, and advance the 1965 Voting Rights Act by passing the Voting Rights Advancement Act.
The San Diego Branch of the NAACP will be demanding the same from our California legislators.  Additionally, we intend to take a group photograph of all elected officials in the San Diego region who are in support of civil rights for all people in America.  Please join San Diego NAACP President Dr. Andre J. Branch, and other elected officials for this historic march and photograph!
