Positive FACE, a San Diego nonprofit organization will host one of the 40 National Teacher Efficacy town hall sessions conducted across the nation. The Education Resource Fair starts on Saturday, Sept. 19th at 8a.m. – noon, and the town hall is from 9 a.m. -11:30 a.m. in the Educational Cultural Complex – 4343 Ocean view Blvd., San Diego, CA, 92113. Both are free of cost and there will be two giveaways for attendees: Kindle Fire or back to school supplies valued at $100.
During the town hall teachers, parents, and concerned San Diego residents will have an opportunity to make recommendations towards K-12 academic excellence. Documentation collected from the discussion will be used for a national study which is sponsored by the Delta Research and Education Foundation (DREF), in partnership with Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (DST), and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
The mission of Positive FACE – the San Diego Town Hall host organization, is to encourage positive life choices through social, emotional, and academic development activities in foster, kinship, at-risk, and adopted children. The name of the organization captures the core belief – Positive Foster and Adopted Children Excel. The objective of this three-year research initiative which is attached to the town hall, is to meet the goal of ensuring that 80 percent of students graduate from high school with the knowledge and academic preparedness needed to complete college by 2025.
The town hall moderator is the highly regarded Dr. R. Vernon Moore – Executive Director, Office of Youth Advocacy and the distinguished panel includes experienced educators such as Dr. Randolph Ward – Superintendent of Schools, San Diego County Office of Education, and Fabiola Bagula – Area 6 Superintendent, San Diego Unified School District.
