On the second Sunday of July, Marie Widman Park and a block of Imperial Avenue were transformed into a day-long festival of Blac0k culture, music, and fun.
Organized by the San Diego Black Arts + Culture District, the community event was filled with interesting vendors, singing, dancing, and a wide variety of good eats and cool drinks.
The family-friendly fun featured musical acts Kalil Nash, Geninelle, Dub Testament and guitar master Leonard “Fuzzy” Rankin, with host Dominic Malone handling the MC duties. The celebration also included speeches by local politicians and historians.
“The event was well supported by the community. I liked the performers, the atmosphere, and the people here,” said block party attendee David Bosson.
The Encanto block party festival’s huge success was a clear reflection of all the hard work and commitment by the organizers and the spirit of the event’s attendees.
