Daren Jerome Bevelyn
November 17, 1964 – April 5, 2016
On November 17, 1964, a beautiful baby boy was born to the proud parents of Freddie Bevelyn and Ruby Nell Purter. Daren Jerome Bevelyn was a happy baby full of joy and promise. He was the youngest son of 4 boys born to Ms. Purter. Daren departed from this life on the afternoon of April 5, 2016 at UCSD Hospital. While growing up Daren attended Meade and Webster Elementary as well as Gompers High School and ECC. He excelled in reading and math, science was his strongest subject. Daren was always curious about how things were made and operated, especially various mechanical gadgets and insects. He was a talented free handed artist and a poet. Daren was an old soul who loved and collected R and B music of the 60’s and 70’s. Daren developed into an ardent reader. His favorite book to read was the Bible. He loved to debate with others on his knowledge of the Bible and Black History. Like his father, Daren was an avid football and basketball enthusiast. He was a loyal Dallas Cowboys fan. Daren was a gentle and humble soul who would never say an unkind word about anybody. He worked many years as a driver for various moving companies including Two Guys will Move U. He was briefly married to Tammie. There were no children from this union. Daren accepted and knew God as his Lord and Savior. He attended Christian Fellowship in El Cajon, CA. He was a dedicated attendee in the worship service and Bible study. Daren leaves to mourn his passing his father Freddie (Patricia) Bevelyn, San Diego, CA; mother Ruby Nell Purter of Los Angeles, CA; maternal grandmother Ruby Purter, San Diego, CA; brothers Elvert (Mavis) Waltower, Wildomar, CA; Maurice Waltower and Gary Waltower, San Diego, CA; Charles Thompson, Las Vegas, NV; Alvert Waltower, Las Vegas, NV; Andre (Andrea) Waltower, Los Angeles, CA; Lemont Waltower, San Diego, CA; Stepsister Kyelunye (Larry) Worthy of San Diego, CA; 4 nieces and 5 nephews and good friends. Services were held Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at the Memory Chapel of Anderson-Ragsdale Mortuary, interment at Greenwood Memorial Park.
