mitchellDARNELL EUGENE MITCHELL, affectionately and lovingly called “Big Head”, was born March 9, 1968 in Hamilton, Ohio to Irma Jean and the late Judge Mitchell.  He was educated in the Hamilton City schools. Darnell accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at a very young age and was baptized at Baptized New Hope Baptist Church.

In 1994, Darnell moved to San Diego, where he completed his GED. That was indeed a very proud moment in his life. His most proud moment was when he received his certificate as an ordained minister.  He truly loved the Lord and he knew the Lord loved him. Darnell worked as a truck driver and later as a fiber optic technician. He made many friends along the way. Darnell loved the sports of basketball and football, which he played both; but his passion was football, which he also excelled in during his school years. His favorite teams were none other than the San Diego Chargers and Cincinnati Bengals. Darnell was caring, loving and very devoted to his family and his friends. He was also fun-loving and full of life. He loved his family unconditionally and they dearly loved him. He was one who truly never met a stranger and was always willing to help others. Throughout his illness, Darnell remained resilient and he never gave up nor did he complain; for he fought a good fight, finished his course and he kept the faith. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. On Wednesday, November 2, 2016, Darnell was called home to be with the Lord. He was preceded in death by his father, Judge Mitchell; his sister, Linda Mitchell; two brothers, James and Bob Mitchell; grandparents, John and Mabel Mitchell; great-grandparents, James and Lillie Patterson; aunt, Ruby Mitchell and uncle, James “Bubby” Patterson. He leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted mother, Irma Jean; brothers, Steve Mitchell of Seattle and Mike Mitchell of New Mexico; sisters, Brandie Miles, Pam (Bob) Jones; niece, Ahkielyn Miles whom he adored and affectionately called “Jones”; uncle, Dwayne Mitchell of Birmingham, AL; great uncle and aunt, Reverend Donald and Daphene Mosley of Cincinnati, OH; a favorite nephew, James “Ba Ba” Mitchell of Hamilton, OH;  a very dear and special friend, Tanja Knox; special childhood friends,  Mike Neal who was more like a brother and his family of Hamilton, OH and Juan Holmes and family; Johnny L.
