Dena Sherrell Mays
February 6, 1970 – August 15, 2016
Dena Sherrell Mays, affectionately known to all of us as “Sherrell”, was born in Bakersfield, California on February 6, 1970. She was raised in San Diego, California by her two loving parents, the late Louis G. Mays Jr. and Mamie D. Mays. She received her formal educationthrough the San Diego Unified School District. Sherrell later moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where she resided until her passing. She was a long time care provider for the elderly. Sheworked for various home care facilities throughout San Diego, California and Phoenix,Arizona. She was a credit to her profession, with a loving and caring nature and a heart of gold. When she wasn’t at work caring for the sick and the elderly, she was doing what she enjoyed most of all, spending time with and taking care of her children and grandchildren.Sherrell also had a huge love for animals and whenever she would travel, her dogs, Precious and Foxy would be right by her side. Sherrell will be greatly missed by her family and her many friends; for they will never forget what she meant to them as she lives in their hearts forever. On Monday, August 15, 2016, Dena Sherrell Mays was called from earthly labor to eternal rest. She leaves to cherish her memory four loving sons, Markeis Mays of San Diego,CA, Johntay Mays, Tyree Strong and Eugene Strong Jr. all of Phoenix, AZ.; her devoted brother, Darren Mays of San Diego, CA; her devoted sister, Joan Lewis of Alberta, VA; threegrandchildren, Tyree Eugene Strong Jr., Ty’Ray Cordell Strong and Imani Sherrell Mays all of Phoenix Az. and a host of other relatives and friends who will mourn her passing, yet celebrate her life. Services were held Friday, August 26, 2016 at Anderson-Ragsdale Mortuary Memorial Chapel; interment at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
