Doris Arlene Hollins

Doris Arlene Hollins otherwise known “Queen D” from Chula Vista, California passed away on October 21, 2016. “Queen D” was born in Waukegan TWP Lake County, Illinois on January 27, 1948. “Queen D” graduated from Leighton Training School, in Leighton, Alabama in June of 1966. “Queen D” worked at Fort Sheridan, one of the military bases in Illinois, pressing military uniforms and “snapping sheets” as she called it. “Queen D” moved to California with her daughter Yolanda and son Jarvis Sr. in 1974. On October 19, 1979, she had her third child Baron. Later she was hired by the San Diego Sheriff’s Department on October 17, 1980. She worked a number of civilian jobs from maintenance, commissary and laundry, just to name a few. She retired on October 19, 2006 with 26 years of service. Throughout her life, “Queen D” enjoyed watching her grand kids, playing Bingo and listening to the oldies like Teddy Pendergrass, Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye and Tammy Terrell. She loved to dance, and as soon as the music came on, whether it was the Electric Slide, Step in the Name of Love or It’s Your Birthday by 50 cent (in Da Club), she would close her eyes and start snapping her fingers. Then she would do a little shake and start singing. She could hang with the best of them. She also was an avid collector of Afrocentric figurines, too numerous to count. But most importunately, she knew Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. “Queen D” passed away from kidney failure. She was preceded in death by her parents Dorothy Luster (maiden name) and Walter Harry Johnson. She is survived by her sister Patricia Luster (3 children) and brother Puncho Johnson; her daughter Yolanda Johnson and grand children Derale and Danny Jr. (great grand children Leilany, Kalyna and Rayemond); her son Jarvis Johnson Sr. and grandchildren Jarvis Jr., Janelle and Jaelynn; her son Baron Hollins; and her good friends and family (Cheryl, Cynthia, Dimple, Ernest, Evelyn, John and Mercedes)
