Effie R. Primas
January 3, 1912 – February 24, 2016
MRS. EFFIE RICHARDSON PRIMAS, affectionately known as “Darling” by family and friends, was born January 3, 1912 in Hankamer, TX. She was the fourth of eight children born to the late D. Forest Richardson and Birdie Whittington Richardson. She received her formal education in Texas, where she also accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at a very young age. Darling later met the love of her life, Mr. Antoine Primas. In 1937, they were united in Holy Matrimony. Their union was blessed with a son, Antoine Primas Jr. In 1939, “Darling and her family moved to San Diego, CA, where she started her
glorious life at Bethel Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Dr. Charles Hampton and continued under Dr. John W. Ringgold. She enjoyed serving as a Sunday School Teacher, in the Nurses Ministry, & the Altar Guild. She also went to Jerusalem on four occasions with the Church. Darling attended the California School of Practical Nursing in Los Angeles. She applied her nursing skills in taking care of actress, Esther Williams and family. She
later returned to San Diego, where she served as a private duty nurse in the homes of the affluent and wealthy such as the Fleet Family, the Admiral Roache Family, Mrs. Engelhorn and others. They all spoke very highly of Darling and her work ethics. Darling loved to dance while singing her favorite gospel songs, and would ask you to join in, even if you didn’t know the words. If a camera was pointed at her, she would quickly strike a pose with a smile as big as the moon. She often participated in the church fashion shows, where she displayed her classy and impeccable style. She said her secret to living a long life was the “Three W Therapy”; The Word, Walking and Water. Darling will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Antoine Primas Sr.; her son, Antoine Primas Jr.; her siblings, Olivan Richardson Jacquett, Leon Richardson, Arthur Richardson, Mattie Mae Richardson, Bertha Gill, Forest Richardson, and Sherfield
Richardson. On Wednesday, February, 24, 2016, at the age of “104”, the lovely Effie Richardson “Darling” Primas was called from earthly labor to eternal rest. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving grandson, Antoine Primas III; great-granddaughter, Racquel Primas; nine nieces and nephews, a host of great nieces and nephews; over 100 great-great nieces and nephews, the members of the Bethel Baptist Church and many, many friends who loved her dearly. Services were held Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Bethel Baptist Church; Interment at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Final arrangements were entrusted to Anderson-Ragsdale Mortuary.
