On Tuesday, October 17, 2023, the Politics of Hate was the theme for Biscuits, Grits & Politics. This breakfast meeting of nearly 100 people, reported on elsewhere in this newspaper, presented a very special focus on Hate and its impact on many in communities of “protected classes”. With the County District Attorney defining these groups and with participation from our Islamic, Asian, Latino and Black communities, the need for such continued dialogue was made very clear.

The San Diego Voice & Viewpoint newspaper has been reporting on Hate Crimes since 1987 in an effort to keep the issues before the public at large, and the community in particular. Clearly, there is a need for all these communities to come together and address this issue collectively and no longer operate in individual isolation. The Stop The Hate Campaign of the California State Library grant is engaged in Ethnic Media Outreach with the slogan “Stop The Hate, Spread The Love”. The commitment to this project is intended to go a long way in reducing Hate Crimes in our communities while bringing people together who otherwise might not get to know or talk with each other.

It is our goal to foster the conversations and actions that will bring our collective passion against Hate, whether physical or verbal, to the level of commitment demonstrated by San Diego County District Attorney Summer Stephan. We need all of us working together to make this a reality and not just another project.
