Happy 101st Birthday Mrs. Lorraine Gholston

Mrs. Blossom Lorraine Gholston celebrated her 101st Birthday on Friday, March 14th, 2014. Blossom Lorraine Van Lowe, a native of San Francisco, CA. was the first African American to be granted a regular teacher’s contract by the San Diego Unified School District in 1942 after she had secured a Masters Degree in Education from Teachers College-Columbia University.
Mrs. Gholston taught at Memorial Junior High School and Kearny until retirement. She also is the founding President of San Diego’s local Chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. She now resides in Aurora, CO.
