San Diego’s College of Continuing Education Foundation held their first, but not last, annual Hoop Hysteria basketball fundraiser at the Jackie Robinson YMCA inside the Michael Brunker gymnasium on April 12th.

Community leaders and local hoopsters put some air in their Air Jordans and entertained the curious crowd of supporters with their no-look passes, three-point capabilities, slam dunks, and more hoops magic moments.

“I think this is a cool event and it’s fun,” said San Diego prep basketball legend and current SDSU men’s basketball coach Jay-Dee Luster.

The special Hoops event also featured a halftime awards recognition of achievements presentation for Lincoln High girls’ CIF Championship basketball team, presented by 4th District City Councilmember Henry Foster III and SDCCE President Tina King.

The attendees were also treated to a raffle, a performance by a local rapper, a shooting skills contest, and a host of other activities with the help of the event’s MC Dwyane Harvey.

Outreach resources were also available at the fun day function.

“This is a good way to bring attention to the YMCA and also let people see what great things SDCCE is doing for our kids and everybody in this community,” Lincoln Hornet boys basketball coach Jeff Harper shared.

Former NBA player and Lincoln High alumni Dominique McGuire, former NFL wide receiver Tyrrell Williams, and San Diego-raised entertainer Lil Niqo were some of the hoopsters that came to show their support for the first annual Hoops Hysteria’s worthy cause.
