James Morris,Sr.

00000001-3James (Dee) Morris was born to the late Mary and Eugene Morris. James joined the church at an early age. He sang in the choir, he then became an usher at the Jerusalem AME Of Charleston, South Carolina. James went to Bears Bluff Elementary and Haut Gap High School both in Wadmalaw, South Carolina. James met his childhood sweetheart (Ruthie Mae Cummins) at Haut Gap High School. She was the love of his life. And the two were united in holy matrimony on November 30, 1963. James loved drama, he proved that in high school. His favorite plays were Peck Bad Boy and Pink Patches. James moved to San Diego in 1964. He attended San Diego City College and received his Associates in Science in Molded Plastic Tool Builder. He received his Journeyman Certificate from General Dynamics in Plastic Pattern Maker after completing a 5 year Apprentice Program. He was a Carpenter until his health began to fail. In 1964 James joined Bethel Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Church under the leadership of Rev. Oxley. He then joined the usher Board. There he became a dedicated and active member. He loved doing his job as an usher. James fought a battle like any soldier would have done. He would make you laugh, smile even though he wasn’t feeling well. That’s how he was no day was a downer for him. He leaves to cherish his memories: Ruthie Mae Morris, his devoted and loving wife of 52 years. Two daughters, Sharonda G. Morris and Michelle Morris. One son, James Morris, Jr. (Nicole), all of San Diego. Four grandchildren, Dominique (Elise), James III, Desmond, and Da’marian Morris. Two great grandchildren, Dominique, Jr. and Jayden Morris. One brother Eugene, Jr. (Queen) Morris proceed him in death. Two brothers, Clarence (Rosalyn) Morris, and Ronald (Debbie) Morris, all of San Diego. His aunt Florence (Patsy) Homes of Youngs Island, South Carolina. And host of Nieces, nephews, and cousins. Services were held Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at Bethel Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Church; entombment at Greenwood Mausoleum. Final arrangements entrusted to Anderson-Ragsdale Mortuary.
