Lessons Learned From The Floods

As a community, we have learned from this experience that we can unite and work together in times of crisis and that in this Black History Month, we are reminded that it was this same kind of togetherness that got us through slavery and Jim Crow.

Once Again we gather to praise the spirit and the work of those outstanding members of our community who came together to help others in times of real life-and-death needs. The Southeast Flood Disaster Response Team, as they have come to be known, have been relentless during the past two weeks in their efforts to address and meet every possible human need thrown at them during the recent flood disaster.

As a community, we have learned from this experience that we can unite and work together in times of crisis and that in this Black History Month, we are reminded that it was this same kind of togetherness that got us through slavery and Jim Crow. In that same spirit, the San Diego Voice & Viewpoint newspaper is excited to recognize the

Southeast Flood Disaster Response Team (SFDRT) as a Community Hero and, in doing so, present them with a Plaque permanently recognizing their example of community responses to future needs. This award is being presented at the 11th Annual Voice & Viewpoint GALA, on February 10th, 2024. Such lessons of teamwork are a beacon of hope for those who come in the future.
