Oak Park was filled with music, laughter, and celebrations on Sunday as families and community members gathered for the 8th Annual Mamas n Mimosas hosted by Michael Brady. Held on May 10 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., the Mother’s Day event brought people together for an afternoon dedicated to honoring mothers and strengthening community bonds.

The MC was none other than San Diego’s Voice of the City, “Tha Speakboxxx” with music provided by “DJ DatBoy”. The event created an uplifting atmosphere where families could relax, connect, and celebrate the women who continue to shape their lives. Local sponsors included Crowned Bonnets, Harvey Family Foundation, Phantom Lounge, and Louisiana Purchase.

For Brady, known throughout the community as “The Flavor Guru,” the event has grown into something much larger than he originally imagined. What started as a small gathering years ago has now become an annual tradition that continues to bring people together.

“When I first held this event, we had four people. Today we had 150-200 people,” Brady said. “I’m nothing without the village and moms past and present.”

Brady explained that the celebration represents more than food and entertainment. For him, it is also a reflection of family values, culture, and the lessons passed down from previous generations.

“It’s a journey that reminds me of the passion I have for cooking and the love I have for family instilled by my Gramma,” Brady said.

Throughout the afternoon, guests enjoyed food, music, fellowship, and moments of appreciation for mothers, grandmothers, and women who continue to serve as the foundation of families and communities. Children played while adults danced and shared conversations, creating an atmosphere centered on unity and love.

Community leader Armon Harvey from the Harvey Family Foundation spoke about the importance of recognizing mothers and the lasting impact they have on future generations.

“Today we celebrated the strength, love, and sacrifices of mothers throughout our community,” Harvey said. “A mother’s impact reaches far beyond her home; she shapes generations, inspires hope, and builds the foundation of stronger neighborhoods. And that’s what Mamas n Mimosas showed today. Happy Mother’s Day to all the incredible moms who lead with love every single day.”

As the celebration came to an end, the love shared throughout Oak Park served as a reminder that mothers are often the heart of every family and the soul of every community.
