A member of Nebraska’s school board is being called on to resign after making racially inflammatory remarks about President Obama.Pat McPherson’s blog included repeated references to President Barack Obama as a “half breed.” McPherson, however, said he didnt’ write the posts and expressed his disapproval before deleting them.
Concerned citizens have called in to complain about McPherson’s comments, causing the board to issue a resolution confirming that the
board “deplores racism in all form and expects respect and civility be shown to all people including the President of the United States.”
“I don’t think people by and large feel comfortable with that type of a blog and that individual making decisions for schoolchildren,” Omaha City Councilman Ben Gray told KETV.
McPherson supporter Mary Jane Truemper implored the board not to act in haste since we all have flaws.
“I ask the City Council not to fall prey to this character assassination,”she said. “There but for the grace of God go any of us who are bold enough to speak out. If we allow these tactics to succeed and to overturn the will of the voters — green lights to putting more attempts to put more officials in ‘I got you’ moments.”
Omaha City Councilman Rich Pahls drew a comparison between McPherson’s blog and French magazine Charlie Hebdo.
“You look at some of the articles, what are some of the diagrams, that I would say got about as bad as you can get, in my opinion,” Pahls told KETV. “But there were people by the thousands who marched and our president was criticized because he wasn’t over there.”
