Kidane Hagos Meharena January 01, 1952-October 08, 2017
Mr. Kidane Hagos Meharena, born to Mr. Hagos Meharena and Mrs. Giorgis Beraki was born in Janurary 1st 1952 in Asmara Eritrea. Kidaneis the second oldest child following his older brother Mihreteab and preceding his younger brother Kibreab. Kidane attended Daniel Comboni for elementary and middle school and later went on to attend Leul Mekonnen high school in Asmara. After successfully completing the mutriculation high school exam, he attended Asmara University (Santa Familia). Due to the political situation in Eritrea, Kidane left the university and joined the Eritrean People’s Liberation Front during his 3rd year. Four years after joining the struggle in 1974, Kidane sustained injuries to his right side following a bombing attack from a warplane in January 1978. After being treated he was perminately disabled and was no longer able to fight.
Kidane was later appointed as the director of a revolutionary school in an Eritrean refugee camp in Sudan where he met a teacher–Mrs. Alganesh Yehdego Aymut, who would soon become his wife. Kidane and Alganesh were married in 1981 and would welcome three children–Erdi, Luwam, and Selam over the course of 7 years in Sudan. With the help of family members from the United States, Kidane and his family were sponsored to come to Atlanta Goergia in 1991. Six months later, with the help of friends, Kidane relocated his family to San Diego, California. Years later his family welcomed their youngest daughter Liya.
For over 25 years, Kidane and his family lived a peaceful and humble life in San Diego. As his health gradually declined in age, Kidanepassed away surrounded by his family and friends on October 8th 2017. Kidane is survived by his loving children–Erdi, Luwam, Selam, and Liya; his dedicated wife, Alganesh; and his brothers, Merheteab and Kibreab Hagos Meherena.

Services were held Thursday, October 12, 2017 at Our Lady of Sacred Heart; interment was at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Final arrangements were entrusted to Anderson-Ragsdale Mortuary.
