The inaugural Pacific Soul Jazz Festival brought two days of jazz, soul, R&B and gospel to the UCSD Epstein Family Amphitheater in La Jolla over Labor Day weekend. Presented by Mandate Project Impact and sponsored by the Urban League of San Diego County, the organizers reported an attendance of nearly 1,500 attendees.
People of all ages came out to be a part of a great weekend of amazing music, a variety of foods, drinks & plenty of vendors for shopping.
The theme “Music with a Mission” lived up to its name with performances from Larry Reed, The Lyrical Groove, Darryl Williams ft. Chase Huna, Karen Briggs & headliner Robert Glasper on September 5th. On September 6th, Britt Spaulding opened; following her was the band B.I.G., Kofi B, Mindi Abair & headliner Kenny Lattimore. Though it was hot, the crowd was enthralled & most were on their feet dancing to the beat. To say the least, it was a beautiful & successful weekend for the Pacific Soul Jazz Festival.
