San Diego, CA: The Neighborhood House Association (NHA) launched their 100 Year Anniversary Celebration with a tribute to a century of service at the Marston House Museum in Balboa Park. Community and business leaders came together to celebrate the agency’s achievements and commemorate the agency’s history and impact to the San Diego region. The event showcased the agency’s roots to the Marston family and highlighted the achievements of 100 years of social work and support to millions of San Diego families.
100 years of service is a unique milestone accomplished by very few organizations. As a non-profit institution, NHA has been instrumental in supporting underserved communities throughout history’s most difficult periods, including the Mexican Revolution, the Great Depression and two World Wars. Originally founded by Helen and Mary Marston, NHA has grown into one of the largest human services organizations in San Diego providing service to over 24,000 families each year. NHA will celebrate its 100 year anniversary throughout 2014 and commemorate a legacy of service to the San Diego region.
NHA provides a range of community programs that include serving pre-school aged children in their 25+ Head Start programs to seniors in their Adult Day Health Care Centers. Other programs that are offered by NHA include the Friendship Clubhouse and Project Enable outpatient mental health care; NHA’s Housing Counseling program offers a variety of rental placement and home ownership services, and InnoVisions is a social enterprise through which the NHA offers leadership, staff, and organization development services to nonprofit, educational, municipal, and for-profit organizations.
Many achievements have taken place over the past 100 years. It will take at least a whole year to celebrate the many accomplishments and the challenges they have assisted San Diegans and their families overcome.
