The family of Neal Petties was joined by friends, civic leaders and local news outlets last Saturday at his namesake park to celebrate the ribbon-cutting and unveiling of the monument sign that bears his name.
Neal Petties, a certified San Diego icon, was honored once again for his outstanding community work. The City of San Diego proclaimed September 19th Neal Petties Day.
The former SDSU and NFL football player was known for his exploits on the field; however, his biggest impact to society was his 25-year service with the City of San Diego as Park & Recreation Leader at Mountain View Park.
“My dad loved this park and the kids here, he wasn’t the type to just come to work, get a paycheck and go home. That wasn’t him, he loved to get involved, he was a great mentor to the kids of this community,” Anthony Petties shared.
He would have loved this event today. He might not have showed it so much on the outside but inside he would have been very proud. I know I’m very proud of the people that had a hand in putting this together. This is a very proud day for the Petties family and the community.”
Family members, local political dignitaries and grassroots leaders such as Jeffery Hayes shared the podium and their experiences and appreciation for Mr. Neal Petties, the ultimate community hero.
