District Adding “Gatekeeper” Classes in Math and English to Boost Student Completion
Open registration for the spring 2015 semester at the San Diego Community College District begins Dec. 15. The 16-week semester starts Jan. 26 and ends May 23.
In response to student demand, the district has added 150 class sections – a three percent increase from last spring. Emphasis has been placed on adding math and English classes, which are among those most in need. In addition, the number of online courses – which account for 1 in 10 class offerings – is up 11 percent.
Signing up for classes is almost as easy as turning on your computer. Prospective students must first submit a completed application either in person or via the Student Web Services link on the SDCCD website at www.sdccd.edu. Once an application has been submitted, students can then register for their classes via the SDCCD’s online Reg-e link.
At $46 per unit, California community colleges offer an affordable way to secure a college degree. Click the financial aid link on any of the college’s website to learn more about various avenues to secure financial aid.
In addition to the district’s for-credit colleges, San Diego Continuing Education offers a variety of noncredit courses at seven main campuses and several community locations.
As the second-largest of California’s 72 community college districts, the San Diego Community College District serves approximately 100,000 students annually through three two-year colleges and San Diego Continuing Education. The three colleges, San Diego City College, San Diego Mesa College, and San Diego Miramar College, offer associate degrees and certificates in occupational programs that prepare students for transfer to four-year colleges and entry-level jobs.
